Treatments

Eyelid surgery is a procedure used to remove fat or skin excess from the eyelids.
Fat and skin excess usually presents an expression of weariness and aging, which in many cases is not the reality.
In some cases, a considerable skin excess in the upper eyelids can even interfere with sight.
This surgery corrects the fall of the upper eyelids and the swollen bags below the eyes. Anyway, it cannot eliminate the crows feet or other wrinkles, or the dark skin around your eyes. In Asian eyes, eyelid surgery can create a line or fold in the upper eyelids, but it will not eliminate ethnic or racial features. Blepharoplasty can be performed alone, or together with a face or eyebrow lifting.

Facial Lifting or Rhytidoplasty is the surgical procedure through which we relocate and suspend flaccid soft facial tissues, descended or dropping due to the effects of aging and gravity, from the facial stable structures.
Facial aging is a normal process involving not only the facial skin, but also the rest of the structures such as subcutaneous fat, muscles, and the bones of the facial skeleton.
It is important to highlight that facial rejuvenation treatments on many occasions must be accompanied by complementary actions to achieve durable satisfactory results, such as the case of the correction of aged eyelids, or treatments on skin with sequelae of the effects of sunlight.

Liposculpture is a surgical procedure through which the bodily contour can be modeled, by extracting, moving or transferring part of the subcutaneous fat tissue.
It is an ideal method for the removal or modeling of localized adiposities, which is hard to achieve through exercise or diets.
Usually it is performed under local anesthesia, and in most cases it is an ambulatory treatment, that is, it doesn’t require an internment.
This procedure can help to model your body by removing undesired fat from specific areas, such as the abdomen, waist, hips, back, arms, thighs, buttocks, knees, cheeks, jowl, neck, and any other area with subcutaneous fat tissue.
During the last decade liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or suction lipectomy, was benefited through further and new refinements. Together, a series of new techniques including ultrasound-assisted lipectomy and laser liposculpture, both performed under tumescent anesthesia, give many plastic surgeons the possibility to provide our patients with more precise results and with a faster recovering process. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for diet and exercise, laser liposculpture can remove resistant fat areas which don’t respond to the traditional weight loss methods.

Abdominal Modeling Surgery, or Abdominoplasty, is the procedure through which it is possible to remove fat and skin excesses from the anterior region of the abdomen, as well as to recover the adequate tension in the abdominal muscles, distended due to lack of exercise, or because of the effects produced upon the abdominal tissues by pregnancy.
With this procedure it is also possible to correct congenital or acquired defects on the abdominal wall such as herniae, eventrations, and scars from previous surgeries.

Treatment of Hirsutism and Undesired Body Hair

The depilation’s final objective is vanishing completely and permanent the hair in a treated zone.

Many people feel uncomfortable with the presence, or unusual quantity of hair in determinated zones of its bodies, which makes difficult its relationship life and/or they feel the hair esthetically negative. The existence of genetic factors determinates that a 10 % of population, generally has an unnormal and excessive grown of body hair (hirsutism). In many cases this happens because of hormonal alterations, this requires a diagnostic and a right treatment to obtain effective and long-lasting effects.

For each person, social group, race or age, it does exist a different way to perceive beauty. Nowadays, by barely watching a magazine anyone can identify the mode and beauty standards; perfectly depilated bodies are the stereotype so for women as for men.

The elimination of hair in different parts of the body obeys to tendencies defined a long time ago. Evidence of ancient civilizations shown perfectly depilated bodies which obeys to esthetic, hygienic, religious and erotic reasons. This whole concept about depilation can be found at the following ancient cultures:

Country

  • Egipcians: The Egyptians had his whole body depilated because of esthetic and hygiene.
  • Greeks: As it is shown in ancient sculptures of depilated body, without pubic hair, this was considered by the Greeks as the ideal of beauty, youth and innocence.
  • Romans: The women in Rome started to depilate their pubic hair in adolescence to feel them selves beautiful.
  • Indians: The pubic hair depilation had an erotic and sexual meaning. It was an aphrodisiac act
  • Chinese: In China, the depilation was a sign of hygiene and purees.
  • Turkísh: The Fact that a woman let her hair grow in her pubis it was considered a sin by the Turkish.

The Pulsed Light treatment

The depilation, using the innovator technology of ultimate generation Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), it is based on the selective foto-thermolisis action.
This means that the light is absorbed and transformed in heat energy selectively by the pigment (melanine) in the stem and root of the capillar follicle; this is why we call it FOTODEPILATION
The hair contains much more melanine than the surrounding skin; this is why when absorbing the luminous energy the hair warms up producing the coagulation and destruction of the hair and the follicle only, WITHOUT DAMAGING THE SORROUNDING SKIN.
Doing this the result is a uniform depilation leaving the skin smooth and young, because of the ant-aging additional action provoked by the pulsed light.
The application is done by short lasting sessions,  unpainfull, and the final result may be appreciated alter 5 to 8 sessions; the time in between a session and another should of about 20 to 30 days depending on the individual variation in the growing speed of the hair.
It is necessary to clarify, the IPL is effective in those hairs that are in its growing stage (anagena) and not in those that are in its declination stage (catagena) on in standby (talogena).
A detailed clinical history, in some occasions, specific lab studies, done by a specialist competent doctor is necessary to arrive to the correct diagnostic to program the correct plan.

IMPLEMENTATION OF INTENSE LIGHT PULSED

The hair is destroyed and should fall down with the follicle.

In less than a second an intense Light pulse is applied in the prepared area.

The hair is shaved. A thin layer of very cold gel is applied on the zone to be treated.

How is the treatment

Nowadays it is the election method for elimination the excess of non-desired hair because:

  • It is a medical treatment and should be performed by trained doctors in pulsed Light technology.
  • It requires a personalized diagnostic, choosing the most adequate Light power for each part of the body skin, density of the skin’s melanin, density of the follicle’s melanin, follicle’s depth, hairs size, treated zone, age and sex.
  • It is unpainful, safe, effective, non-invasive and permanent en almost every case.
  • It can be done at any age, in men and women
  • In one session thousands of capillar follicles are treated simultaneously. In few minutes the pulsed light can modify effectively an area. This same results with other painful methods could take more than an hour.
  • Suitable for any body area: face, axes, pubis, neck, chest, arms, legs, abdomen, back, buttocks, hands and feet.
  • It is non-cancerigenous because the Light emitted is in the rank of visible and infrared light.
  • Turns the skin smoother producing a “youth” effect because of the stimulant action of the pulsed Light over the collagen.
  • When the hair excess is associated with hormonal problems, it can be combined, if necessary, with hormonal treatment, obtaining this way an optimal result.
  • It is not teratogénic (it does not harm the baby during pregnancy) this is because it does not emits ionizing radiations; the warming effect is limited to the skin. It is necessary to clarify that, anyway, the treatment in not recommended for pregned women.
  • It finishes with skin problems as "folliculitis" y “incarnate hair” in any zone and is  one treatment for acne too.
  • It is possible to perform habitual tasks immediately alter each treatment.
  • The treated zones MUST be protected with aloe vera gel for few days, and to use solar creams with ultraviolet Light protection factor UVA/UVB at least 20 to 25 PTF, during the following 7 days of each treatment.

BASIC ADDITIONLAS INFORMATION

Hair growing stages.

The healthy capillar cycle of the hair has three stages:

Anágena: It is the growing stage, it happens regularly in most of the hairs.

  • Catágena (transition): It is a stage that takes from 2 to 3 weeks. During this the constant growing stops, this makes the root shrinks and fall down. This phenomenous happens regularly in a very little percentage of cases. The majority of the hair grows again because the follicle does not fall down. Gradually, a new hair starts growing from the internal root of the follicle; this new hair pushes out the old hair.
  • Telógena: it is a standby stage that takes 3 or 4 months befote the anágena stage starts again. It has an average duration of 7 to 100 days (depending on the body area). Taking this fact, it is trae that in a certain moment a variable percentage of all hair is in standby. During telogénic phase it is normal that every day hair fall down. Each hair has its own cycle, so there is a constant number of a hair in standby. After the phase of standby, a new hair grows again in the same follicle. In the follicle is therefore a permanent section, above the erector muscle, and other transient below it.

The hair cycle is controlled by local factors, genetic, metabolic and endocrine.

SKIN AND HAIR TYPES

The first visit to a clinic is very important, not only to raise all your questions about treatment, the facilities and staff that you will meet, but also for the professional man or women to determine the course of action to be taken specifically on you, depending on the characteristics of your skin and hair.

In Clinic Altea professional stuff will observe your hair and your skin for it to fit one of the types in which divides the classification Fitzpatrick, which is the currently classification being used in the field of depilation Pulsed Light.

This classification divides skin into types I to VI, taking into account the color and reaction to the sun; with this classification the professionals can reach to determine the sensitivity to the sun, the susceptibility to light damage and the ability to melanogenesis.

  • Type I: White skin, easily Burned by the sun and does not get tanned.
  • Type II: White skin, easily Burned by the sun and it gets minimally tanned.
  • Type III: Skin slightly brown, moderately burned and gradually gets tanned.
  • Type IV: Brown skin, minimally burned and well tanned.
  • Type V: Dark brown skin, hardly burned and gets intensely tanned.
  • Type VI: Black skin, it does not get burned and depth pigmentation.

Once our skin is classified into one of these types, the following thing is to compare it with the color of our hair, to determine whether conditions are appropriate to obtain the most favorable results

WHICH ARE THE MORE APPROPIATE CONDITIONS THAT MAY HAVE THE HAIR FOR DEPILATIÓN WITH PULSED LIGHT?

The key is that there may be a substantial difference between the color of hair and skin, that is, as the hair is darker and the skin lighter, the results of this depilation will be better. Why? It"s simple, the energy emitted by Pulsed Light is absorbed by melanin, therefore the darker hair contains more melanin and absorbs more energy as a consequence, if we add to this that the skin is lighter, when the light passes by, energy power were not be lost on skin acting in this way almost entirely on the hair follicle.

Despite the fact that these are the right characteristics, progress in the field of depilation Pulsed Light enables increasingly the application of this technology on a broader spectrum of types of skin and hair.

Unlike with the laser equipments, which has two major constraints that hinder progress: the dark skin and the white hair.

There is currently no effective laser in dark skins, perhaps, the Neodymium YAG, because of its wavelength, gets the best results, but if we go to any centre and they tell us that they perform hair removal with 100% effective results on the skin they are not being honest with us. Any specialist in this area knows the problems of this type of skin.

With the gray hair or white, happens the same that the previous case: there are not yet favorable results because of the lack of melanin of this hair type. The solution to finish with this hair is choose another type of permanent hair removal: Intense Pulsed Light IPL

We have prepared the following table to find out if you are a good candidate for depilation Pulsed Light.

Skin fototype Description of the color of your skin pigment Hair color Láser Pulsed Light
I White, always gets burnd, never gets tanned Brown/Blonde Excellent /moderate Excellent
II White, always gets burned, sometimes gets tanned Black/Red/White Good/Moderate Excellent
III White, sometimes gets burned, always gets tanned Brown/Blonde Moderate/Difficult Excellent /Good
IV weirdly gets burned, always gets tanned Black/Red/White Regular/Difficult/Bad Good/Moderate
V Brown, moderately pigmented Brown/Blonde Difficult/Difficult/Bad Good/Moderat

OTHER USES OF PULSED LIGHT INTENSE

  • Collagen Regeneration (Striae - Laxity)
  • Removal of Acne
  • Tattoo Removal
  • Skin rejuvenation (pigmentation)
  • Telangiectases (small varicose veins)

The nose, being the most visible part of the face, is frequently a cause of much constant suffering for the person who sees in it a lack of harmony, either because of its size, shape, position, or the difficulty to breathe.
Rhinoplasty, or nose remodeling surgery, is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures.
It is indicated to reduce or increase the size of the nose, change the shape of the tip or the nasal bridge, to reduce the opening of the nostrils, or to change the angle between the nose and the upper lip. Also, it can correct birth or traumatic defects, or assist in solving respiratory problems.

Dermabrasion is a polishing procedure through which the superficial layers of the epidermis are removed, that is, the outermost portion of the skin, to eliminate irregularities such as:
    ● Fine wrinkles
    ● Sun and pigment spots
    ● Tattoos
    ● Acne-related scars
    ● Scars in general
While Dermabrasion can be performed on any part of the body, the most frequently treated parts of the body are different areas of the face.
Thus, the wrinkles that are most commonly treated with this method are perioral, or “smoker” wrinkles. In the area of the cheeks and the forehead, the acne-related scars. In different parts of the face, sun and pigment spots. And tattoos, in the area where they might have been applied.
The instrument to be used is a micro motor, onto which a sterile emery-polished cloth is mounted, whose rotating effect is applied gradually over the area to be treated until the desired depth is reached.

Breast augmentation surgery through silicone prostheses implant is the procedure used to improve the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels that the size of her breast is too small, or who wants to correct the breast volume reduction after pregnancy and lactation, or to balance a size difference between the two breasts, or as a technique for reconstruction after a breast surgery.

Breast reduction surgery is a procedure through which a part of the glandular and fat tissue of the breasts is removed so they can be remodeled to a harmonic shape in relation to the physical contexture of the woman.
This surgery is commonly requested by women suffering from disproportion in the size of their breasts. Generally they suffer from physical nuisances such as back pains and injuries in the skin of their shoulders caused by the weight of their voluminous breasts exerting weight on the suspenders of their bras.
In most of the cases, large or gigantic breasts tend to be saggy, and in the same procedure it is possible to correct this situation through elevation techniques, or mastopexy.

After some years, factors such as pregnancy, lactation, and gravity exert a negative effect on the aspect of your breasts. As skin loses its elasticity, the breasts change their shape, lose firmness, and begin to look saggy.
Mammary elevation surgery, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to augment and give new shape to sagging breasts, at least for some time (no surgical procedure can permanently delay the effects of gravity). Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areoles, by removing the dark skin surrounding the areole.
If your breasts are small or if they have reduced their size after pregnancy, silicone implants can be inserted together with the mastopexy surgery, which will at the same time increase their size and firmness.
