After the surgery

After surgery, we will apply lubricating ophthalmic eye drops, and a cold bandage for the first minutes. You may feel your eyelids heavy and burning after anesthesia has worn off, but this is managed with the medication that we will provide. If you would happen to feel any intense pain, you must contact us immediately. You must follow a series of instructions such as resting while keeping your head up for some days, applying cold compresses to reduce the swelling and bruises (bruises vary from person to person, reaching their highest level during the first week, and disappearing gradually in the following two to four weeks). You can see how your eyes cleanse; they may be sticky during the first week. Generally we recommend ophthalmic eye drops with anti-inflammatory and antibiotic when dryness or burning is felt. You may experience an increased tear-shedding during the first week, and increased sensitivity to light.
We will keep a close follow-up during the first week to track the evolution. Sutures are usually removed between the fourth and the seventh day, and from that time on you will look better and better.
